Student Elections in Year 3: Learning by Participating
As part of the first PYP Unit of Inquiry under the transdisciplinary theme “How We Organize Ourselves”, our Year 3 students at Colegio Juan de Lanuza explored how humans organize in communities to collaborate, make decisions, and meet common needs.
In Spanish lessons, this project focused on developing oral expression and communication skills, helping students speak with confidence, clarity, and purpose.
To bring the concept to life, each student ran as a candidate for Mayor of Zaragoza or Garrapinillos, preparing speeches and proposals to present before the class. Students from Year 5 acted as voters, turning the activity into a real election experience!
The results were truly impressive — beyond the votes, every student showed enthusiasm, creativity, and strong communication skills.
At Juan de Lanuza, we believe in experiential learning: learning by doing, speaking, and participating. Because education is not only about knowledge — it’s about forming confident, empathetic and active global citizens.
