Success of the Pilot Project “More Life, Less Social Media”
Colegio Juan de Lanuza continues to advance in its commitment to innovative and responsible education with the launch of the pilot project “More Life, Less Networks.” This pioneering initiative aims to foster a more conscious and balanced use of technology among students, encouraging reflection on mobile phone dependency and the impact of social media on personal well-being.
For this purpose, over seven days, 4th-year ESO students replaced their smartphones with basic phones, thanks to a collaboration with the company Embou, which provided the devices and necessary SIM cards for the challenge. Before the project began, an informational meeting was held with students and families to discuss the effects of excessive mobile phone use, including anxiety, lack of concentration, and its impact on sleep.
The project has been enthusiastically received:
✅ 83% active participation from students.
✅ 50% of families and 100% of students responded to pre-project surveys on digital habits.
✅ The initiative has sparked growing interest, with new groups requesting to join.
Initial pre-test data has revealed differences between parents’ perceptions and the reality of their children’s time spent on social media, as well as its impact on their emotional well-being and sleep.
Once the challenge is completed, a comparative analysis will be conducted to assess the impact of digital disconnection on students. Additionally, the project is expected to expand to other ESO grades, with the aim of consolidating healthy digital habits throughout the educational community.
At Colegio Juan de Lanuza, we appreciate the support of families and the commitment of students in this transformative initiative, which helps build a healthier relationship with technology.
Furthermore, we want to congratulate Elena Montañés (1st-year Artistic Baccalaureate) for designing the project’s logo, visually capturing its essence and purpose.
